There are 8 planets in the Solar System

Planets revolve around the Sun. The Sun is a star.

Task: try to say the name of the planets before they appear on the screen ;-)

    

Rotation and revolution (rotación y traslación)

The Earth spins on its axis. This movement is called rotation. 

Rotation causes day and night.

The Earth moves around the Sun. This movement is called revolution.

Revolution causes the seasons. 

   

The Moon 

The Moon is a satellite. It moves around the Earth. From Earth, the Moon appears to change shape. 

Moon phases

From Earth we see the Moon GROW  or shrink  in different phases. 

 Why does the Moon appear to change shape?

 

Earth's layers

There are three main layers in the Earth:

- The crust (la corteza) is the outer layer. The crust is covered by water (oceans) and land (continents and islands). 

- The mantle (el manto) is the middle layer. 

- The core (el núcleo) is the centre of the Earth.  

The Earth is surrounded by the atmosphere (atmósfera), which is made of air.
